The history of the Department of Sanskrit of the Ram Sajivan Singh P.G College begins with the history of the college itself. The department came into existence simultaneously with other departments of the college. Initially the department was in an intermediate level, but now the department functions as an independent department and operates directly under administration of the college. At present the department offers Sanskrit as honors, pass and major with limited seats.
The department believes that Sanskrit is one of the most interesting and scientific languages of the world, and thus the study of Sanskrit revives the ethics of India. It helps the students to unlock the treasure language of scientific insights and research concerning the positive science of ancient literature.
Vedas are the soul of India culture and tradition, this is because it is written in Sanskrit only, and the hymns of Rigveda are the seeds of Sanskrit language and literature. Sanskrit is hence the storehouse of all types of knowledge and wisdom which is very useful to live a happy and peaceful life. All these ethics and moral values and the rich culture of the country is what makes Sanskrit very important.
The Department of Sanskrit invites students to explore and experience the broad range of knowledge of ancient culture and tradition as well as the language and literature that are the constituent parts of the subject itself. Starting from the touch of poetry to the philosophy of the ancient and modern world is what keeps the chambers of the house of Sanskrit moving.
The Department of Sanskrit offers two different courses in the form of Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. Students will get exposure to a wide range of topics like Indian philosophy, Sanskrit language and literature, linguistics, and exploratory topics.
We believe that it is important to develop a systematic understanding of the social and intellectual world of texts and traditions, thus the Department of Sanskrit acts as a gateway for the study of materials with special focus on the ancient and contemporary world, its culture, tradition and literature.

Bachelor's Programme
The bachelor's degree in Sanskrit is a three-year undergraduate curriculum academic program that is bifurcated into six semesters. This academic session aims to provide the students with a solid ground of knowledge as skills that form the basics of classical Sanskrit language and literature. The academic program gives a brief insight about the general knowledge of Indian culture in which Sanskrit has a life and meaning.
In this academic program, a substantial amount of teaching is done through reading and understanding of texts in its simplest forms. In this course, special emphasis is given to the broad understanding of literary and intellectual development of Sanskrit language.
The course is designed in a way so as to develop a familiarity with the topics that the modern scholars think important. The bachelor's degree program also gives a brief understanding of the history of western scholarship in India. This degree program will give you an opportunity to combine the study of Sanskrit with a wide range of options by the Department Of Sanskrit.
Master's Programme
The Master's degree is Sanskrit is a postgraduate program that is built on the fundamentals of Vedic and Sanskrit literature, Indian philosophy, Indian ethicsand Sanskrit literature. The course teaches the students about classical Sanskrit literature, epics, drama and poetry.
This academic program primarily focuses on language fundamentals through daily uses, role playing and discussions. It will assist the students in comprehending old Sanskrit writings, texts, shlokas and other original Sanskrit contexts.
The students who pursue the master's degree program can make a significant contribution in translating literature, music, media, tourism and education. After completion of this course, students can continue their academic studies or work as a teacher, lecturer, transcripter etc. Students who have completed the masters degree program in Sanskrit can also get a job in academic and research sector. Students can also purse for advanced study and exploration.
